The National Sports Museum has on display approximately 3500 objects but behind the scenes, it’s a very different story.
On International Museums Day, the NSM opens its back-of-house, giving you the rare opportunity to enter the inner sanctum and discover the workings behind Australia’s National Sports Museum.
Witness first hand an environment housing in excess of 100,000 objects that encompass the collections of the National Sports Museum. With a member of the NSM’s curatorial team guiding your tour you will find out about the vital role they play in protecting our nation’s rich sporting heritage. Take this opportunity to discover some of the processes involved in handling, examining and storing artefacts of all kinds and, get a glimpse of the customised storage facilities and how they operate. You might even be the first to see some of the museum’s latest acquisitions as they are being assessed and documented by our staff.
